Monterrico is a resort town located on the
Pacific Coast, south of the town Santa Lucia Cotzumalguapa, that is only
accessible by boat. A bus drops you off at La Avellana a town of with only a
handful of residents and a lancha takes you for an enchanting 30 minute ride down the
Canal de Chiquimulilla, a long Mangrove canal. It is very beautiful with tiny houses
and families situated along the edges of the canal. |

Living the life of a Discovery Channel Naturalist, I am
helping release hundreds of baby turtles (tortugas) along the Monterrican Shoreline.
This one is getting ready for his first swim. |

Those little black dots that look like rocks are actually
little baby turtles waddling their way to the ocean for the first time. Many of
these baby turtles won't make it to maturity, but even if only 1 survives, I will be
satisfied knowing I helped just a little to prolong the lives of an endangered species. |
These are the mosquito nets over the beds.
The mosquitoes only came out in force at about 3 o'clock in the morning but for
those who didn't have nets or had nets with holes, they woke up looking like they had a
severe case of the measles. |

The hotel and beach were the perfect backdrop for the cover
of a Jimmy Buffet CD. We will be going back soon. |
| This was a fabulous group to travel with. Everyone got
along great together: relaxing, the midnight swims in the ocean, busting the cabana over
the pool, great food, quads, and even sunburns. Right Chris. |
