5th Ultimate Adventure: BVI

Day One - July 29, 2012

Departing: Road Town, Tortola
Day Stop: Norman Island
Night Stop: Soper's Hole, Tortola

Our first day on the boat; this will be a pretty long sail, from Road Town to first day stop, Norman Island, then on to our overnight location at Sopers Hole. We will be exploring the (sea) Caves at Norman Island, which were an inspiration to Robert Louis Stevenson while he wrote the book Treasure Island and inspired the Disneyland ride Pirates of the Caribbean.

Day Stop: Caves at Norman Island.

Norman Island itself was used by actual pirates. The Bight, a large, deep and well protected harbor, attracted pirates for overnight anchorage and, supposedly, to bury treasure onshore.

Overnight Stop: Soper's Hole, Tortola.

A well-protected harbor, Soper's Hole is our home for the first night. There are lots of places to go shopping here. This is also our first dinner out. We have dined at Pusser's in the past, as depicted in the picture below, because of its great view of the harbor and channel beyond.
