The Prayer of Saint Gregory
By Alan Hovhaness

Randall Coleman, Director

Alan Hovhaness composed The Prayer of Saint Gregory in 1952 for solo trumpet and symphonic band. Using a noble and slow tempo, Mr. Hovhaness has created a piece that is reflective and pensive. The use of long tones, with eighth and sixteenth note passages within the sustained harmonic structure, portrays the inner mood of prayer and thoughtfullness.
