Comments: Stephen, I am no expert but ... The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is a American demonination of about 1 million members in the US. We were founded by a couple of groups on the American frontier in the early 1800's. One group, in Virginia, led by Thomas and Alexander Campbell called itself the Disciples of Christ. The other, in Kentucky, led by Barton Stone called itself the Christian Church (I could have the church names backwards). When the founders met, circa 1830, they found they had much in common - no creeds, open Communion, Baptisim by emersion, a desire to build a church modeled after the 1st Century church described in the New Testament, and Christian unity. When the groups merged they kept both names - Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). You can find more, perhaps better, info at http://www.disciples.org/historc.htm Hope this helps, Leo BKCC Webmaster
